The 80-microns-thick (that’s 80 millionths of a meter, or about as thick as a human hair) full-color display can be rolled up and unfurled repeatedly without degrading picture quality. It was made possible by a breakthrough in OLED tech, in which Sony researchers created organic thin-film transistors with 8 times the performance of conventional OTFTs.

More details will emerge Thursday when Sony presents the technology to Society for Information Display’s 2010 symposium in Seattle. But suffice it to say, such technology points to a future where everything, even media usually associated with paper like newspapers and magazines, have the capacity to handle full color digital media. Something to note is that the new tech spces of the Moto OLED Android tablet could definitely beat those of the rumored Apple tablet: It boasts a touchscreen, and it’s loaded with Wi-Fi, 3G, an SD card hole, HD video playback and an 8 megapixel camera!

This laptop isn’t an OLED, but it was so cool, I couldn’t resist not publishing this story. You see, the screen is 3D! Sure, it wont run for as long as normal computers on its battery, but when plugged in, this is bar none the best bang for your buck in the realm of 3D Gaming/Movie Watching.

In case you’re new to our site, the benefits of ‘Organic Light Emitting Diode’ over ‘Liquid Crystal Displays’ is that with OLED you do not need a backlight as the individual pixels themselves produce their own light (aka, they glow) when supplied with power.

Without the need of a backlight, the display screen can be much thinner. This tends to make the colors more vivid, perfect for a nifty little Netbook. The downside of course, price.

The rumors can be traced back to Smarthouse, the Australian technology and media magazine who claim that ‘inside sources’ have slipped and released the info accidentally about two companies which are in talks to produce a 10 inch Netbook later next year, just in time for Christmas, and that this Netbook will feature an OLED touch screen made by LG.

Word is spreading fast, and although there is no way to confirm this rumor, it is creating much speculation and excitement over what the new Netbook will be like, how much it will cost, what operating system it will feature, etc. etc. etc.

Netbooks are generally a lot cheaper than standard laptops, retailing for less than $500. Keep checking back for your chance to buy one here as soon as they are available!

The video below shows it all, but this laptop has a flexible OLED display which is capable of multitouch. After it’s rolled out it becomes a 17-inch flat screen but can also be folded into a 13-inch tablet laptop. The detachable stand stores the tablet’s stylus, power adapter, plugs, and USB ports. This concept is unbelievably cool! Hell, I will never look at my yoga mat the same way.

The Prime Gaming Laptop main screen is an OLED 10-inchs in size with 16:10 aspect ratio. It also features a pair of Auxiliary OLED wing-panels with 8:10 aspect; these offer a super wide, 32:10 combined aspect ratio, and a combined 26-inch screen viewing estate when opened fully. As you can see from the picture, when not in use it is also fully collapsible, laying almost completely flat on the ground.

Very few details of the cost and technical information other than we have listed were revealed. It is rumored to feature an aluminum body and a large vent design to improve thermal conductivity.

The cool thing is you can directly work on this computer’s OLED touchscreen, much like with a pda. The whole screen is also a slider, it can be moved forward to reveal a second OLED touchscreen underneath, where you can have either a keyboard with working touch controls, or use them both as monitors.

Because of this interactivity you can pick and choose exactly what controls you need at the moment or even have individual styles and themes to fit your taste, or the program that you’re using. It is also possible to either have a keyboard displayed there or to write directly on it with the pen.
